Dave Ellett was a dependable defenseman who spent the heart of his NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, becoming a familiar presence on the blue line during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Ellett joined the Maple Leafs in 1986 and quickly established himself as a steady two-way defenseman, known for his skating, puck-moving ability and offensive contribution from the back end. During his time in Toronto, he played alongside several notable Leafs and was part of the teams that reached the 1993 and 1994 Campbell Conference Finals.
One of Ellett’s most memorable seasons came in 1991–92, when he recorded a career-high 20 goals and 58 points. He remained an important part of the Leafs' lineup throughout the early 1990s before being traded to the Winnipeg Jets in 1994.
In total, Ellett played 567 games with the Maple Leafs, recording 85 goals, 209 assists and 294 points. His years in Toronto made him an important part of the club during an exciting era of Maple Leafs hockey.
