Joe Sakic Autographed Quebec Nordiques Retro Logo Puck

NHL history. Selected 15th overall by Quebec in the 1987 NHL Draft, Sakic quickly became a cornerstone of the franchise and developed into an elite scorer, leader, and captain.

Sakic spent seven seasons with the Nordiques from 1988 to 1995, recording 234 goals, 325 assists and 559 points in 508 games. He became captain in 1992 and helped lead Quebec through one of the most memorable periods in franchise history.

During his time in Quebec, Sakic established himself as a dynamic offensive player with a lethal shot, exceptional playmaking ability, and remarkable consistency. The 1995 season was particularly memorable, as he scored 48 goals and 61 assists for 109 points, finishing third in NHL scoring.

When the Nordiques relocated to Colorado in 1995 and became the Avalanche, Sakic remained the heart of the franchise. His leadership and excellence continued in Colorado, where he would eventually captain the Avalanche to two Stanley Cup championships.

For Nordiques fans, Sakic remains one of the most important players in franchise history—a young star who grew into the face and captain of the team before carrying that legacy into Colorado.
